Daniel Ansong, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics in the Department of Child Health, School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)-Ghana.

Currently, he is the Dean of the School of Medicine an Dentistry (SMD)- KNUST. He resumed office on August 1st 2017. He was the Deputy Director of the Research and Development unit at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Kumasi-Ghana from 2011 to 2017. His dedication to service over two (2) decades and exposure to leadership and management skills have prepared him to serve in the capacity as a Dean of SMD. His modesty and hard work convinces all his capabilities to promote ideas that will enhance the growth of SMD to the international status required to meet current global health agenda.

Being a shrewd person, his academic prowess in medical training, teaching, learning and assessment from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology since 1987 paved way for further studies: - Johns Hopkins University in 1998; University of Witwatersrand in 2004; Postgraduate training in Pediatrics and Learning, Teaching and Assessment programme with Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine.

Daniel Ansong has developed organizational, supervisory, and conflict resolution skills in several capacities: - ten (10) years as the Head of Pediatric Emergency Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital; six (6) years as the Deputy Director of the Research and Development Unit of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital; acting as the Medical Director of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on several occasions. The exposure of offices has expanded his interaction with both Ghanaian universities and International Academic Institutions of which his expertise in research strongly sought for.

As the Dean for academic affairs at the School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD-KNUST), Daniel Ansong has shown commitment with an attitude of service, optimum dedication and perseverance as a leader. His leadership style and team building have recently proven to be transformational because they seek to address the challenges inherent in the KNUST Medical School. For example, his involvement of faculty members, students and synergy of ideas for proposed development of a community-based participatory research programme using research findings to support the health care delivery system is laudable.

His leadership approach has been found to be shaped by evidence-based decision-making process, proactiveness, forward-looking, team building, cooperativeness and interdependency among and across faculty members in the SMD. It is believed that under his leadership, the community-based component of the faculty’s mission statement is provided with more impetus and expanded to benefit more students, faculties and the communities in general.

Daniel. Ansong is respected for broad academic/research. His visionary leadership tact is empowering for strong institutions and development of the health sectors in Ghana.  He has always believed that teamwork, respect of opinion and cohesive coordination of effort among all Senior and Junior Staff members of the school will lead to fruition of vision/mission of the school.
