Department of Clinical Microbiology
General
The teaching of microbiology in the Department involves – (Bacteriology, Mycology, Virology, Entomology and, Parasitology) for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
At the end of the undergraduate training course, the student should have a sound knowledge of the following:
- History and scope of Medical Microbiology.
- Concept and implication of germ theory
- Innate body defence mechanisms
- Normal flora of the human body
- Methods of sterilization and disinfection
- Common microbial infections and their related pathogens – bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites
- Principles of prevention and control of infectious diseases.
- Principles involved in investigating common infectious diseases.
The students should be able to perform simple laboratory tests and interpret them.
Regular students assessments will be done at intervals to constitute continuous assessment.
There shall be final examination at the end of the course.
