KNUST College of Health Sciences Commissions Six New Discussion Areas to Enhance Student Learning

 

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Christian Agyare, has commissioned six newly constructed discussion areas aimed at strengthening student-centred learning at the Boadi Medical Enclave and the Clinical Students’ Hostel.

The commissioning ceremony, held on 5th November 2025, brought together College leadership, management of the Clinical Students Hostel at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), and student leaders.

 

The project, valued at GHC 330,000, represents a collaborative investment in improving teaching and learning facilities, particularly in support of the College’s Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach. Speaking at the event, Professor Agyare highlighted the importance of conducive learning spaces in enhancing hands-on training, interaction, and critical thinking among health sciences students.

He commended the joint efforts of the Clinical Students Hostel management, KATH, and student associations, stressing that their financial and logistical contributions were pivotal to the project’s completion. He further applauded the student leadership for initiating and supporting developmental projects that will leave a lasting legacy for future cohorts.

Providing details on the breakdown of the project, the Provost noted that the College of Health Sciences constructed two discussion areas, one at the Clinical Students Hostel (KATH) and another at the Medical Enclave, Boadi. The Clinical Students Hostel Management funded the construction of two additional areas, while the Health Sciences Students Association (HESA) and the Medical Students Association (MSA) contributed one each, bringing the total to six.

Dr. Samuel Blay Nguah, Hall Master of the Clinical Students Hostel, expressed profound appreciation to the Provost, College management, and all sponsors for their commitment to improving student welfare. He emphasized that the new discussion spaces will significantly enhance academic engagement by providing students with spacious, well-structured areas for group learning and study discussions.

The newly commissioned discussion areas are expected to support the College’s progressive shift toward interactive and collaborative learning, further strengthening KNUST’s reputation as a leader in health sciences education in Ghana and beyond.
