The KNUST School of Medical Sciences on the 26th of August 2024 hosted one of its proud alumni, Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa who is part of the 1993 year group. The visit is an open-door initiative by the School in preparation for its 50th Anniversary Celebration.
Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa’s aim for the visit was to propose a concept of memorabilia for the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the KNUST School of Medical Sciences in 2025.
The concept Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa presented to the Dean of KNUST School of Medical Sciences, Prof. Akwasi Antwi-Kusi and Prof. Daniel Ansong, the immediate past Dean of SMS was a linguistic staff and a stool which has symbolic features that showcase the journey of the KNUST Medical School, its embodiment and Akan traditional symbols which denotes the location and origin of the KNUST School of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa explained that the linguistic staff when produced will be a commemorative artefact in honour of the 50th Anniversary of SMS and will symbolise leadership and secretaryship. He also explained that the stool will symbolise authority which can be used during the inauguration of any new Dean in the School.
Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa shared some of his fondest memories as a medical student at the KNUST School of Medical Sciences where he got enrolled in 1987 and graduated in 1993. He is a football fanatic and has a great passion for African traditional beliefs.
Dr. Cyclopea Anakwa is an internist in Las Vegas, Nevada and is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center and University Medical Center-Las Vegas. He received his medical degree from the University of Science and Technology School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. He has expertise in treating chronic diabetes, bursitis, chronic high blood pressure, among other conditions.
