Dr. Michael K. Obeng, a certified plastic surgeon, and Dr. Benjamin Asafo Boakye a pediatrician paid a courtesy visit to the College of Health Sciences on April 2, 2024, at the Provost’s Office to express their interest in giving back to the School of Medical Sciences by teaching and mentoring the next generation of physicians under training.
Dr. Michael K. Obeng and Dr. Benjamin Asafo Boakye who are seasoned health professionals in their remarks stated that this initiative of assisting teaching and learning at the KNUST School of Medical Sciences will be vital to the training of Medical Students because of the experience they have gathered over their years of practice. They also asserted that the modern way of training in the medical field is experiential-based hence they will be assisting in providing hands-on training to students in various medical disciplines like surgery, anatomy, pediatrics, and other crucial fields.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare, and Professor Akwasi Antwi-Kusi, the Dean, of the School of Medical Sciences applauded their initiative of giving back to the SMS with their rich experience in Medicine. They acknowledged that their services would be impactful to the students and pledged their unwavering support in making this a success.
Dr. Michael K. Obeng is a world-renowned Plastic Surgeon in Beverly Hills, United States of America. He is considered by most as the best Plastic Surgeon with over two decades of experience. He is a Harvard - trained Plastic Surgeon and board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and belongs to several prestigious surgical and medical societies, including but not limited to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He has been named twice by the Consumers’ Research Council of America in 2011 & 2014 as one of” America’s Top Plastic Surgeons.” Dr. Obeng has served on many prestigious hospital staff, including The Massachusetts General Hospital, Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston, and Children’s Hospital Boston. He served as chief of plastic surgery at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center in Ohio from 2007 – 2012. His background in micro-neurovascular surgery has equipped this gentle giant with the tools to address every patient he encounters in plastic surgery and different surgical disciplines.
He is the founder of RESTORE which stands for Restoring Emotional Stability Through Outstanding Reconstructive Efforts. It is a non-profit medical service organization in the United States of America that provides free reconstructive surgeries and related medical services to children and adults with disfiguring deformities from birth, accidents, and diseases involving not only the head and neck region, but also the trunk, breasts, extremities, and genitalia. He is the Director of MiKO Plastic Surgery and MiKO Surgery Center in Beverly Hills, California.
