Dr. Nana Kwame Ofori Ayisi-Boateng of the School of Medical Sciences at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been appointed as the new Director of Health Services.
With this appointment, Dr. Nana Kwame Ofori Ayisi-Boateng becomes the 14th Director of University Health Services, KNUST. This appointment is a testament to his outstanding contributions to the medical field and his unwavering commitment to excellence in healthcare and education.
Dr. Ayisi-Boateng’s journey as a Lecturer began in 2019 when he joined the KNUST Department of Medicine at the School of Medical Sciences (SMS). Prior to this, he had 12-year professional career as a Medical Officer and Senior Specialist Family Physician at the University Hospital, KNUST. His extensive clinical experience spans a wide range of medical conditions, with a particular focus on chronic illness, infectious diseases (including HIV/AIDS and COVID-19) and non-communicable diseases such as asthma, hypertension, diabetes and stroke.
His academic credentials further underscore his commitment to excellence. He is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians (FGCP) and holds an MPhil degree in Clinical Microbiology from KNUST. His dedication to advancing medical knowledge is unmatched by his passion for mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals.
Dr. Ayisi-Boateng’s contributions extend far beyond the classroom and clinic. He serves as the Trial Clinician for the Filariasis Team at the Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR) and has been a Principal Investigator or co-investigator in various HIV-related research, COVID-19 studies and
other significant research initiatives. His dedication to research has contributed to the broader understanding and management of infectious diseases in Ghana and beyond.
In addition to his research and clinical roles, he is deeply involved in postgraduate medical education. He serves as a trainer for the Family Medicine program of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Accra. He also plays a key role in training house officers, residents and interns as the Clinical Coordinator for the BSc Physician Assistantship Program at KNUST. His leadership in these roles ensures that the future of healthcare in Ghana is in capable hands.
Dr. Boateng is a Fellow of Queen Elizabeth II Hall and has served as the Alumni Coordinator for the School of Medical Sciences, KNUST. His leadership extends beyond the walls of KNUST, as he has been the Chair/President of AfriWon Renaissance, the young doctors’ movement of the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), since 2018. Through this platform, he has been an advocate for young doctors, promoting collaboration and innovation in family medicine across Africa.
