The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Medical Sciences extends heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Ruth Owusu-Antwi on receiving the Millennium Excellence Award in Women's Advocacy.
This prestigious honour was conferred during a grand ceremony hosted by His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Dr. Owusu-Antwi, a distinguished psychiatrist, educator, and advocate, is widely recognized for her relentless commitment to improving mental health care and championing the rights and well-being of women across Ghana. A proud alumna of KNUST, she holds a BSc in Human Biology, an MBChB in Medicine and Surgery, and an MSc in Global Mental Health and Policy—all from her alma mater.
As a Fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons in Adult Psychiatry, she currently serves as a full-time Lecturer at the KNUST School of Medical Sciences.
In her clinical role, she is a Senior Specialist and the immediate past Head of the Psychiatry Directorate at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where she has led several innovative programs in mental health care.
Beyond her academic and clinical achievements, Dr. Owusu-Antwi has been a tireless advocate for women's mental health. Through her NGO, WellMind International, she brings mental health education directly into communities, especially through unconventional spaces such as hair salons, where she and her team engage women in conversations about emotional well-being.

She also delivers talks in churches, mosques, markets, and schools, educating women and girls on how to manage stress, depression, and anxiety, and on the importance of seeking early help.
She has also been actively involved in national campaigns against gender-based and intimate partner violence. She plays a key leadership role as Vice-Chair of the Lady Julia EVE Medical Foundation, working to enhance women’s mental health in the Ashanti Region.
Dr. Owusu-Antwi’s dedication has earned her both national and international acclaim, including her recognition as the 2019 International Fellow of the Association of Women Psychiatrists in San Francisco. The latest honour—Millennium Excellence Award for Women Advocacy—crowns years of impactful service and visionary leadership.
The KNUST School of Medical Sciences is immensely proud of Dr. Ruth Owusu-Antwi and celebrates this well-earned recognition.
