The KNUST School of Medical Sciences (SMS) has commissioned its renovated SMS Guest House as part of activities marking the school’s 50th anniversary.
The renovation was initiated under Prof. Daniel Ansong, Dean of SMS from 2017 to 2023, and completed under the current Dean, Prof. Akwasi Antwi-Kusi, with support from senior members of the school.
The commissioning ceremony took place on October 2, 2025, and was led by the the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Christian Agyare, who acknowledged the contributions of faculty, staff, and management.
“We didn’t have a huge budget, but through the leadership of the Dean and the support of senior members, we completed the renovation step by step,” Prof. Agyare said.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining the facility going forward.

Prof. Antwi-Kusi expressed appreciation to all who supported the project. He noted that contributions from professors, lecturers, administrative staff, and artisans played a key role in completing the work.
He highlighted the dedication of the guest house staff and noted improvements in staffing levels and operations. “We started with just four workers; today, we have twelve. With everyone’s support, we've made real progress,” he said.
He also acknowledged the role of the Provost in supporting the project and reiterated the school’s commitment to sustaining the facility.
The SMS Guest House is expected to continue serving visiting academics and guests of the college.
Its renovation adds to the legacy of the School of Medical Sciences as it celebrates five decades of medical training and service.
