Professor Alexander Oti-Acheampong of the Department of Oral and maxillofacial surgery, School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been promoted to an Associate Professor. He is a senior specialist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he provides clinical care and supervises residents. The core areas he teaches in clinical dentistry include oral anatomy, local anesthesia in dentistry, oral radiology, and oral and maxillofacial surgery.
He is currently the head of the department of oral and maxillofacial sciences and coordinator for dentistry at the SMD. Professor Oti-Acheampong serves on the boards of SMD and the College of Health Sciences and he is the immediate past Vice-Dean of the KNUST Dental School.
He is a regular resource person for the Ghana Medical Association, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons, and other health-associated groups. He also reviews scientific manuscripts for the Ghana Medical Journal and provides community service in the areas of health education and promotion and clinical care especially in cleft lip and palate surgeries and basic dental care.
Professor Oti-Acheampong is also involved in several international collaborations in Resident’s training, resource mobilization, and research activities especially in cleft lip and palate, head and neck cancers, facial trauma, and medicolegal cases.
He has published over 39 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals some of which have influenced effective patient care and teaching in dentistry.
