The main office of the Department of Surgery at the KNUST School of Medicine and Dentistry has received a major facelift worth Forty thousand Ghana Cedis (₵40,000) to meet the modern standard of a workspace and also provide a conducive area to students and staff of the department.
The official opening of the refurbished office took place on January 15, 2024, marking a significant milestone for the Department of Surgery. Speaking on the renovation, the newly appointed Head of the Department, Prof. Joseph Yorke, who commenced his tenure on November 1, 2023, stated that the renovation has brought a renewed atmosphere to the workspace and marks the first of its kind since he joined the department in 1999. “This prompted me to take it upon myself to initiate this much-needed renovation” he added.
During a brief ceremony to inaugurate the renovated space, the Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, Prof. Akwasi Antwi Kusi, expressed gratitude to Prof. Yorke for his proactive approach in utilizing his resources to refurbish the department. Prof. Antwi-Kusi also extended appreciation to additional partners, including WAF MAT Ventures, Kannada Home and Building Construction, and resident surgeons, who contributed significantly to the realization of this endeavor.
